WE WERE VICTORIOUS! Once again I want to thank everyone who worked so hard to make our campaign not only positive but VICTORIOUS!

On May 4^th we won the Democratic primary for State Representative in HD 13 with a solid margin of 54% of the vote. This win put the campaign on solid ground to go into the general election in a race that we were positioned to face an independent opponent.

BREAKING NEWS………We learned on Friday, May 14^th , that the independent candidate withdrew from the race through a communication to the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections. This means that I do not have an opponent in the race for State Representative for House District 13 in the general Election in November. While I am pleased to be in this enviable position, as I remarked to a local reporter, the campaign continues because it was never about the opponent, it has always been about the people of House District 13. This campaign is about connection and service. I will continue to reach out and connect with the members of the district at events and neighborhood gatherings in the coming months, as we discuss concerns and strategies to strengthen our community and serve Ohio’s families. Making History-I will also carry the distinction of being the first openly gay legislator elected to the General Assembly at the conclusion of the November election. It is my hope that this notoriety will serve as a catalyst for dialogue as we strive to remove the barriers that now divide us as we work for equality for all Ohioans. I am very proud of Jean Kosmac my partner of 16 years and our daughters, Ariel and Stacey. I believe  everyone should be afforded the right to celebrate their family with love and dignity. We must never forget all of those who came before us who made this moment possible.

Moving Forward- One of the strengths of this campaign was our ability to bring together a diverse group of retirees, families, students and active community members who worked for a brighter future for Ohio.  Through this campaign we were able to unite around a common goal and were victorious, however, our work is not done. Your energy, spirit and support will continue to be the driving force behind this campaign as we work on specific legislation and the issues of Jobs, Education and Healthy Communities. Senator Dale Miller endorses Nickie Antonio for State Representative in District 13

State Senator Dale Miller has endorsed Lakewood City Councilwoman Nickie Antonio for State Representative in District 13. “With strong experience in education, human services, and local government, Nickie Antonio is uniquely qualified to represent an area as diverse as District 13,” Senator Miller stated. “Nickie Antonio’s experience, integrity, inclusiveness, progressive ideals, and positive attitude make her my candidate for State Representative,” he added.

Nickie Antonio’s background as a former special education teacher, an administrator for a multi-county HIV/AIDS program, and her position as Lakewood City Councilwoman give her a broad perspective on the issues facing ordinary citizens in her district.

Ohio House District 13 includes all of Lakewood, all of Cleveland Wards 15 and 16, and parts of Cleveland Wards 3, 14, and 17. The district is currently represented by Representative Michael Skindell, who is not able to run again because of term limits and is running for the 23rd District Senate seat. Nickie Antonio is running in the Democratic Primary on Tuesday, May 4th, 2010.

My Opponent goes negative………………………………………

Dear Friends,

It is with great disappointment that I report that my opponent, Tom Bullock, has taken his campaign in a negative direction and launched an attack on my integrity. I have heard from many of you already regarding your disdain for his offensive, divisive and hateful message full of false accusations, made-up news article citations, bravado, untruths, and frankly a message that shows his lack of understanding of the budget process conducted by both the City Hall Administration and Council. Obviously Bullock will say anything to try and win.

As a result I need your help.

1) THIS is the toughest race I have ever been in- It is no longer a fair fight -

my opponent will stop at nothing to win – he’s shown that this week.

2) The race is really close- it will be determined in the next few weeks and the primary is May 4th.

3) I NEED YOUR HELP. In order to combat his message of hateful lies we need to raise $16,000 in the next two weeks. For example, if 160 people each gave $100 we could make the goal of $16,000.  Of course, we appreciate donations of any amount. You can donate online by clicking here or send a check to:

Ohio law allows a dollar for dollar credit on your Ohio income tax return for the first $50 per year for donations to state electoral campaigns, ($100) for joint filers.

Perhaps Angela Shukahosee’s email sent to me after receiving Bullock’s mailer says it best:

“After seeing Tom Bullock’s latest mailer, I felt sick.  Bullock makes references

to the work Democrats for Principled Leadership is doing, and tries to use it against Nickie Antonio, former Chair of the Cuyahoga County Women’s Democratic Caucus.  Despite initially working with him to organize a group that would work WITH and THROUGH our existing county Democratic Party, I’ve questioned his motives in the past, but this mailer only substantiates every suspicion I’ve had.  Bullock is obviously NOTHING but an opportunist and for him to deem himself “the leader” of a reform effort is simply inaccurate, untrue, and manipulative. And it’s certainly not an effort against the Party as he has made it out to be.  Bullock’s description of what we’ve tried to accomplish is not even accurate. Democrats for Principled Leadership is committed to strengthening our county Party and is committed to including all Democrats, old and new. This is just unacceptable on every level and Iwill do what I can to disassociate him from our effort. Bullock is the politicianhe seeks to denounce with his rhetoric. I am appalled by Tom Bullock’smailer and hope that the residents of HD 13 recognize what is really occurring.”
